Day 2
Next morning we walked to Burnsall, where we looked round the church, and on to Grassington, getting confused by the numerous paths towards the vantage point of Conistone Pie. We stopped in Kettlewell for a delicious ice-cream and made Buckden early enough to have a couple of drinks in the local pub before we all caught the bus back to Burnsall Bridge, a mile from Appletreewick. I had a debate, well, more of a harangue, with the pub landlord about buses and the fact that you couldn’t catch a bus from there to Appletreewick. He also told us that he drank fifteen pints a day, owed nowt to anybody and was willing to sell the pub if we were interested.
Marilyn, being a mere youth, had to pay on the bus. Jake, having been dragged on the bus with splayed legs, took refuge under a seat. On the short walk from the bus stop to the campsite we suffered a ten minute shower, the only rain of the entire trip
